Kahibah is a residential suburb located nine kilometres southwest of Newcastle's central business district, in the local government area of the City of Lake Macquarie. The suburb sits adjacent to Glenrock State Conservation Area and enjoys proximity to Dudley Beach. Kahibah is situated roughly halfway between Newcastle CBD and Lake Macquarie. The suburb is placed between Highfields to the north and Whitebridge to the south.
The Awabakal people were the original inhabitants of the area that makes up Kahibah today. The suburb's name is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning "a place for games". The township of Kahibah was gazetted in 1894. A coal rail line ran through the suburb from 1880 to 1992. The retired railway line has since been redeveloped into a cycleway called "The Fernleigh Track".
Kahibah Sports Club is located in the suburb's west, on Kinebea Avenue. Kahibah's eastern fringe forms part of Glenrock State Conservation Area, and the Fernleigh Track is situated here. Glenrock Lagoon and Dudley Beach are found to the suburb's east.
